Several members of Ladies side at today's game
Portsmouth FC are delighted to be supporting Women in Football and promoting Pompey Ladies at today’s game against Newport, as part of a campaign to mark International Women’s Day, which was on Tuesday, March 8.
Around 25 girls from the ladies development sides will be in the Milton End today and 12 of them, accompanied by six first team players and Angela Benson, a player on trial from the USA, will be presented to the crowd at half-time.
The girls and their respective teams are: Caitlyn Gray (U7s); Charlotte Williams, Millie Underwood and Amelia Primmer (U9s); Lucy Scutt and Leila Silva (U10s); Hannah Jeffrey and Hannah Thompson (U12 Blue); Leonie Tewkesbury and Gwenaelle Walters (U12 Yellow); Dani Clark and Lily Moore (U14s).
In addition, Vanessa Raynbird, Hampshire FA director and council member, Mick Williams, club chairman, and Keith Briant, club secretary, will be in the directors’ box today.
Colin Farmery, Pompey’s head of inclusion and safeguarding, said: “Portsmouth FC are committed to promoting Women in Football and we are delighted to be celebrating the grassroots success of our ladies’ team.
“A significant number of senior managers at the club are female and the overall contribution women make to the club’s success, not to mention the game as a whole, is incalculable.”
Women in Football is a network of professional women working in and around the football industry who support and champion their peers.
Anna Kessel, Guardian and Observer journalist and co-founder of the organisation, said: “Women play vital roles in making the game the success that it is.
“By sharing our professional experience, we hope to encourage more women to get involved in football across the board.”
