Three Lions to visit Fratton Park for a Women's World Cup qualifier

Fratton Park will host England Women’s World Cup 2015 qualifier against Turkey on Thursday, September 26.

The Three Lions will be playing their second match in five days following their opening qualifier against Belarus in Bournemouth on September 21.

Pompey engagement manager Micah Hall said: “We are honoured that Fratton Park has been selected as the venue for this prestigious and important fixture.

“Ticket details will be announced in due course and we expect demand to be high.”

England last met Turkey in qualifying for the 2011 World Cup, winning both matches 3-0.

The home game, in July 2010, was Rachel Yankey’s 100th international appearance and she captained the side, and scored, on her big day.

The last Women’s game to be held in Portsmouth was a 3-0 victory over Portugal in February 2002.

Kelly Smith scored two and Fara Williams grabbed the other in front of a then record crowd of 8,821.

The BBC will once again broadcast the match, following on from their extensive coverage of England at Euro 2013.
