BLUES SIGN BENNETT

Midfielder pens Fratton deal

Pompey have signed midfielder Kyle Bennett on a two-year contract.

The 24-year-old was a free agent following the expiration of his deal at League One side Doncaster.

And he had no qualms about dropping into the fourth tier to help try to revive the Blues’ fortunes.

Bennett said: “This is a massive club with a great fan base and the manager expressed a desire to bring me here.

“I know he’s very attack-minded – which is good for players like me – so that also helped me make this decision.

“I’ve had a few other offers from the league above, but I certainly don’t see this as a backward step.

“This club are looking to go somewhere and I want to be a part of that. I know what it takes to win promotion from this division because I’ve done it before.”

Bennett also revealed that he is looking forward to running out in front of the Fratton faithful.

He said: “I’ve played against Pompey before and know what the supporters are like. They’re loud and there’s plenty of them.

“The number of people that come to games in League Two is absolutely phenomenal and it’s always great to play in front of large crowds.

“I’ll give my all in every game, but I also want to entertain. I’m looking forward to the new season and I hope the fans are looking forward to seeing me in action.”

Bennett came through the ranks at Wolves before spending a season at Bury and helping them win promotion from League Two.

He joined Doncaster in the summer of 2011, scoring 16 goals in 131 appearances and picking up a League One winner’s medal.
