Potts: Not Solid Enough

23 November 2013

Defender says Pompey can’t afford to concede twice at home

Dan Potts was thrown straight into the firing line against Scunthorpe.

The teenage left-back arrived on loan from West Ham on Wednesday and was immediately handed his Pompey debut.

His Premier League class was evident at times, although ultimately he could not prevent the Blues from slipping to a 2-1 defeat.

And Potts knows that his new side have to be more solid at Fratton Park.

He said: “I’m as disappointed as anyone that we didn’t come out of the game with anything.

“I thought we deserved at least a point from our performance, but it just wasn’t to be.

“It is a results business that we’re in and that puts a lot of pressure on us ahead of Tuesday night’s match.

“We conceded from a set-play and then a counter-attack. It’s something we’ve got to put right.

“You can’t be going into a game having to score three or four in order to win. Those 1-0 wins can determine how your season goes.

“At times we played with a high-tempo, but we need to keep that going for the whole 90 minutes if we want to get the results we want.

“We need to put the result behind us as soon as possible and concentrate on facing Southend.”

Potts enjoyed linking up with his new team-mates earlier in the week and insists that spirit is still high in the Pompey camp.

He said: “I would never have known that they’d lost three on the bounce because everyone’s been fantastic in training.

“I joined in on Wednesday and so I’ve only had three days of training so far, but morale has been high.”
