ROBINSON: NO HIDING PLACE

13 December 2014

Defender admits defending was poor

Paul Robinson says Pompey’s players have to take responsibility for their defensive deficiencies against Accrington.

The Blues found themselves two goals behind after just 15 minutes before recovering to go in level at the break.

But despite dominating the second half, they were left empty-handed when Piero Mingoia fired home.

And Robinson admits that Pompey were simply not up scratch at the back.

The defender said: “It was a sloppy start from us, although then the boys were fantastic to get us back to 2-2.

“From there you thought we were all set-up to go on and win it in the second half.

“We had a decent spell and created chances – myself included – but we couldn’t take them.

“Then we got caught with a sucker-punch at the other end, so it was a disappointing and frustrating afternoon all round.

“We can’t expect to concede three goals and get anything from the game, so it wasn’t good enough.

“Individually and collectively we need to work hard to put things right – we can’t hide away.”

Gary Waddock watched his first match since being named assistant manager and Robinson feels he has a lot to offer.

“We’re looking forward to working with him,” said the 32-year-old. “I’m sure he’s excited about getting his ideas across.

“He would have seen a few things that he feels he can help put right and he’s a fresh voice.”
