TAYLOR: TOUGH TO TAKE

28 March 2015

Striker frustrated by Shrews defeat

Ryan Taylor was left cursing Pompey’s efforts at both ends of the pitch against Shrewsbury.

The Blues were beaten 2-0 by their high-flying opponents, who had never previously won at Fratton Park

Bobby Grant did the damage with a long-range strike in each half to move his side to within a point of leaders Burton.

Pompey never really looked like troubling Jayson Leutwiler in the Shrews goal, having just two shots on target.

And Taylor admitted that they did not deserve to take anything from the contest.

The striker said: “It was a very disappointing game and a poor result for us – it’s a hard one to take.

“We weren’t good enough and it was a very frustrated dressing room afterwards, so now we have to pick ourselves up and get ready to go again at Carlisle.

“There are seven games left of the season and we need to start collecting some points up again.

“We’ll have a look back at the performance next week, so we can analyse our weaknesses and work out how to improve.

“But we looked deflated after they scored the first goal and struggled to get ourselves going again after that.

“The second one really took the wind out of us and we didn’t really create much at the other end.

“We need to keep working as hard – or harder – than we did earlier in the second, when we perhaps had more to play for.”
