Club launch new website

Portsmouth Football Club are delighted to launch a new website which aims to capture the chronological history of the club since its formation in 1898 – and we are calling on fans to help make the story as rich as possible.

The site – www.pompeyvoices.co.uk – has been planned for around a year after the club teamed up with Collective Narrative – a company which specialises in capturing personal stories and memories and putting them online.

Colin Farmery, who heads up history and archiving for the Blues, has been working on the #pompeyvoices project with a group of around 20 fans who all share a passion for the club’s history.

He said: “We are really excited about this timeline project. Collective Narrative have a great pedigree in this field and we were delighted when they approached the club to work in partnership with us.

“The team of fans – especially Paul Boynton – behind the content of the project have done a fantastic job in getting the initial story of the club onto the site, but now we are looking for our fans to help us fill in the gaps.

“As well as the ‘official’ club history, we want our fans to tell us their stories about supporting Pompey. Whether it’s their favourite player, a memorable match or something more off-beat, we want them to sign up to the site and tell us their stories.”

Using archive sources, the site features some of the key moments, players and managers in the Blues’ rich past, including the FA Cup wins in 1939 and 2008, and the league title wins in 1949 and 1950, as well as some of the more recent aspects of the club’s history, including the community takeover in 2013.

Collective Narrative has built the technology that powers Pompey Voices. Their team is focused on providing spaces to capture personal stories and memories from fans, employees or customers so that they can be stored in one place forever.

The company’s technology also powers Manchester City’s #citystories and has been gathering memories from fans across the world for the last two seasons.

Paul Carruthers from Collective Narrative said: “We’re delighted to be able to work with Portsmouth FC and provide a place for fans to add their voice to the shared history of the club.

“The club has a wonderful history and fans have been part and parcel of that for the last 117 years. We’re really looking forward to hearing their stories and continuing to work with the club.”

Collective Narrative created the Jubilee Time Capsule for HM The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations in 2012. Working closely with The Royal Commonwealth Society, the Jubilee Time Capsule was a unique gift from thousands of people across the Commonwealth.

Following a presentation to The Queen, the Jubilee Time Capsule was added to The Royal Collection in Windsor Castle and also remains online at www.jubileetimecapsule.org
