Taylor: It's My Goal

19 April 2014

Striker lays claim to Pompey's second against Rovers

Open up the newspaper tomorrow and you might see Danny Hollands listed as scoring Pompey’s second against Bristol Rovers.

But Ryan Taylor is not going to let anybody take the goal away from him.

It all came about from a clever corner routine, which saw Ricky Holmes pick out Hollands on the edge of the box.

The midfielder’s shot was diverted into the net by Taylor, however, with the Blues going on to claim a 3-2 victory.

And he is keen to lay claim to a fifth of the season since his January arrival from Bristol City.

Taylor said: “I’ll definitely be fighting anyone who says that isn’t my goal!

“It’s a corner that we worked at on the training ground. We took it short, Danny got a shot away and I had a touch with my back foot.

“But the most important thing is that we’ve won the game and climbed up the table.

“The gaffer told us to keep up the high standards that we’d set ourselves in the previous three games.

“It’s unbelievable what we’ve done since getting that first victory at Newport a few weeks ago.

“That’s four wins from four games and we’ve got another game in a couple of days to try to keep it going.”

The Blues do not have long to prepare for their trip to struggling Northampton on Easter Monday.

Taylor said: “It’s going to be tough, but that’s what you want when you’re playing with confidence.

“We want to get safety absolutely secured as soon as possible – that’s what we’re striving for.

“Let’s try to make it five from five under the new manager and finish the season on a high.

“Both teams will be hungry for the win, but we have to make sure we’re hungrier.”
