Taylor Targets More Wins

13 April 2014

Striker sets his sights on remaining fixtures

Ryan Taylor has called on Pompey to maintain their recent fine form.

Andy Awford’s side eased to a 4-1 triumph at Dagenham & Redbridge on Saturday to record a third successive victory.

Michael Drennan’s brace and goals from Danny Hollands and Jed Wallace saw them climb to 16th in the League Two table.

Taylor lauded the dominant display, but knows that the Blues are still only five points above the bottom two.

The striker said: “In the first 10 minutes their players were looking around as if to say ‘where have this team come from?’.

“They didn’t know where to go and we were penning them inside their own half.

“That’s three wins on the bounce now – not a bad start for the new manager. He’s instilled some confidence and told us to go out and play with a smile on our face.

“We need to keep it up and get safe as soon as possible – that’s the aim for all of us.

“We’ve set a high standard for ourselves now and it’s important that we maintain that until the end of the season.

“There are four games left and there’s no reason why we can’t get a result in every one of them.

“The work-rate and desire to win is clear to see, but we’re not over the line yet and we need to keep it going.”

Pompey fans made up almost half of the 3,150 crowd at Victoria Road and Taylor believes they played their part.

He said: “They were getting right behind us and the support was brilliant. It spurred us on and helped us get that fantastic result.”
