Midfielder hopeful of extending Blues loan
It was a disappointing way to end his loan spell with Pompey.
But Toumani Diagouraga is confident that a 3-1 defeat at Fleetwood will not be his last appearance in a Blues shirt.
The midfielder has impressed in his stint on the south coast and was even handed the captain’s armband at Highbury Stadium.
And Diagouraga revealed that work is already underway to extend his loan from League One Brentford.
He said: “I’m very happy here and we’re close to agreeing something for longer. I’ve enjoyed my time and want it to continue.
“Before I arrived I hadn’t played for quite a while, so to be out there every week feels really good.
“When I first came here I said that I just wanted to give 110 per cent for the team and I think the fans have seen that.
“It’s been two defeats in six games which isn’t a bad record – we’ve just found it hard to hit the back of the net.”
The Fleetwood result meant that Pompey are now just four points above the League Two drop zone, although Diagouraga was unhappy with the award of a penalty – given for an alleged foul by Daniel Alfei – for the hosts’ second.
He said: “We finished strongest and I don’t think there was much between the sides throughout the game.
“I’ve never seen a penalty given like the one that went against us and after that it was an uphill battle.
“The goal we did score doesn’t count for much because we lost, but I’m sure we’ll bounce back.”
