Community scheme on shortlist for Johnstone's Paint competition
Pompey have thrown their support behind a community hub which is hoping to paint a brighter future after reaching the final of a national competition.
Pompey Place, on Anson Road, is one of four finalists competing for the makeover prize in the Johnstone’s Paint Community Spirit campaign.
The hub is hoping to come out on top in a public vote to win the competition, which is being run in conjunction with the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.
Community projects around the UK were invited to submit applications, with the winner receiving a redecoration of their facility.
More than 50 entries were received, with a judging panel selecting four for the shortlist based on criteria such as the impact the project has on the community and the urgency for redecoration.
Pompey Place is an extension of the work done by Pompey in the Community and will support hundreds of people of all ages each week and be used as a community hub for education, social action and training.

Anyone who votes will be entered into a prize draw to win a pair of tickets to the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy final at Wembley on March 22.
Pompey club captain Johnny Ertl said: “There is some fantastic work carried out here for people right across the community.
“The new building is going to be brilliant, so I would urge everyone to take to their computers and phones and vote to try to win the redecoration from Johnstone’s Paint for Pompey Place.”
Clare Martin, chief executive of Pompey in the Community, believes winning a complete redecoration of their facility would provide a huge boost to their work.
She said: “We have a new venue next door to our existing premises which we will be fitted out in the next few months and will house the work we do within Pompey Place.
“Our work assists people of all ages and backgrounds with an emphasis on the vulnerable members of the community, so it would be fantastic if we could win the redecoration prize for our new building.”
The other shortlisted finalists are based in Dagenham, Milton Keynes and Preston.

Johnstone’s has a long history as one of the UK’s foremost professional trade paint brands and is celebrating its 125th anniversary in 2015.
