Norris joined Pompey on a free transfer from Ipswich on July 1 2011 after declining a new contract with the Tractor Boys. The midfielder began his career at Boston United and soon attracted the interest of Bolton boss Sam Allardyce, who took him to the Reebok Stadium in February 2000. But the Peterborough-born player found games hard to come by in the north-west and returned to Boston on loan before further temporary spells with Hull and Plymouth, securing a permanent deal at Home Park. Norris shone at Plymouth, scoring 27 goals in 235 appearances in his six years in the south-west. He then joined Ipswich in January 2008, netting scored 16 goals in 118 appearances during his time in Suffolk.
