Halford joined Pompey on loan from Wolves in October 2010, making his debut in a 1-0 victory at Millwall. He then signed a permanent deal the following summer

He scored his first Blues goal in his second appearance for the club – a 2-1 win at Hull.

The versatile defender made 20 appearances for Wolves since signing from Sunderland in July 2009.

He did not feature prominently during his time with the Black Cats, spending much of his two years there on loan, first to Charlton for four months and then to Sheffield United for a season, where he scored eight times in 49 games.

Halford began his career at Colchester, where his performances in the 2004/05 season saw him named in the PFA League One Team of the Year.

He left Layer Road to after making more than 150 appearances and had a brief spell at Reading, where he featured just three times.
