Bondz: That Was Better

Defender pleased with improved defensive display

Pompey’s defending was criticised after Saturday’s 4-1 defeat to Oxford.

But the Blues back-line restored some pride with a disciplined performance at Bournemouth.

Eunan O’Kane’s second half strike meant it was the Cherries who progressed to the second round of the Capital One Cup.

The Championship side did not find it easy to breach their League Two opponents’ defence, however.

Bondz N’Gala was one of those to impress after coming into the side to make his debut at the Goldsands Stadium.

The centre-back said: “I think I did alright and all the lads performed well. It was a big improvement from the weekend and our defending was much better.

“Sonny Bradley is a good player and I think we did a good job together in the centre of defence – hopefully that’s something that will continue.

“Bournemouth are a very good passing side – there are not too many sides that do that as well as them.

“They’re a difficult team to play against and I think they’ll do well in the Championship this season, but we didn’t allow them too many chances.”

More than 1,350 Pompey fans made the trip along the M27 to support their side and N’Gala has been impressed with their support.

He said: “I was impressed with the number of Pompey fans that turned out and I’m eager to show them what I can do.

“Now I’m looking forward to playing at Fratton Park because it’s an amazing stage and hopefully we can do well there.”

N’Gala has only been at Pompey for a few days, but it has not taken him long to settle.

He said: “There is a great set of lads here. I knew Patrick Agyemang from our time at Stevenage, but everyone has been really welcoming.”
