Painter's Debut Delight

18 August 2013

Defender pleased with Pompey's professionalism against Morecambe

Marcos Painter enjoyed a comfortable Pompey debut.

With the Blues bombing forward at every opportunity and Morecambe playing almost an hour with 10 men, the defence were not overly troubled.

But they dealt with everything that was thrown at them, keeping a clean sheet in the 3-0 triumph.

And Painter was pleased with the professional approach Pompey took to see out the game.

The left-back said: “A 3-0 home win and a clean sheet in my first game – it couldn’t have started any better really.

“We moved the ball quickly and penetrated from the wide areas. We’ve got a lot of quality up front and caused them problems.

“The gaffer said that he brought me in to help the side keep clean sheets and we did our job at both ends.

“It can be easy to switch off when you’ve dominated the first half like we did. Even though they were down to 10 men the pressure was on us.

“Everyone expects us to come out and get another three goals. The second half was little bit flat, but we kept the clean sheet which was pleasing.”

Painter was pleased to play the whole game after arriving at Fratton Park on Thursday.

He said: “When Pompey came along I just had a feeling that it was the right choice for me.

“You can play as many friendlies as you like, but competitive football is different and it was great to get through 90 minutes – it gives me something to build on.”
