Bradley says pre-season results will have no bearing on Pompey's season

Pompey certainly did not look over-awed against a side that finished eighth in La Liga last term.

But ultimately Rayo Vallecano’s quality shone through as goals from Saballs and Adrian secured a 2-0 victory for the Spaniards.

The Blues have lost their final three pre-season friendlies, which also included matches against Championship sides Charlton and Bournemouth.

But Sonny Bradley believes Pompey will be a different proposition when Oxford visit Fratton Park for next week’s League Two opener.

The centre-back said: “The sides we face this season are going to be nowhere near as good as Rayo.

“We’ll have a lot more possession and a lot more chances in our league matches.

“There should be a lot for the fans to look forward to this season and hopefully we can do a good job on the pitch.”

Pompey and Vallecano both showcased some attractive passing football in an entertaining first half at Fratton.

And Bradley was delighted to get the opportunity to play against such high-calibre opposition.

He said: “At times you had to take a step back and realise just how good they are.

“I can honestly say they’re the best team I’ve ever played against. The way they set up as a team and their confidence on the ball – I’ve never seen anything like it.

“It was pretty ridiculous how good they were – I wish them all the best for the new season.

“I think we created some good chances, but the goals were conceded were quite sloppy.

“That’s the way things go sometimes in football and you can’t take anything away from Rayo – they deserved the win.”
