Youthful Blues side beaten at Privett Park
A youthful Pompey XI were comfortably beaten by their more experienced Gosport counterparts at Privett Park.
Adam Webster, Ashley Harris and Ryan Bird were the only members of Guy Whittingham’s first-team squad on display.
Gosport broke the deadlock on 18 minutes when Mike Gosney raced into the box and drilled home a shot.
Sammy Igoe’s free-kick was then flicked into the net by Sam Pearce to double the lead for the newly-promoted Conference South side.
Pompey pulled a goal back early in the second half, with Harris scoring from the spot after Jack Maloney had been flattened.
But the hosts’ two-goal advantage was restored on 65 minutes when Pearce’s free-kick found its way through a host of bodies and into the bottom corner.
And an unstoppable 40-yard strike from substitute Jack Barton completed the scoring a few moments later.
