Barcham hoping to find the net this season

He has already netted twice in Pompey’s pre-season campaign.

And Andy Barcham is looking to contribute plenty more goals throughout the 2013/14 campaign.

The winger opened his account in the 5-0 victory at Havant & Waterlooville earlier this month.

He then curled home a fantastic equaliser at Bournemouth, although it failed to stop the Blues slipping to a 2-1 defeat.

But Barcham knows that Pompey will not come across many sides who play as well as the Cherries this term.

He said: “I want to try to add goals this season. It’s part of my job and something that I enjoy doing.

“I like to get at defenders. It was difficult to do that against a good side like Bournemouth, but I tried to do it whenever possible.

“I bent the ball past the goalkeeper and was happy with the finish, but the more important thing was getting more minutes under the belt.

“We’ve played a decent side. Bournemouth pass and move the ball really well and made it difficult for us.

“It’s good to play teams that are above you because ultimately that’s where we want to be and it will stand us in good stead for the season.

“The gaffer said he wanted us to work on our defensive shape and be tight as a unit and I think we put a good shift in.”

Barcham was also happy to get through the entire game at the Goldsands Stadium.

He said: “That was my first 90 minutes, which was difficult but very much needed.

“I was injured towards the back end of last season, so haven’t played a full match for quite some time.

“It was great to be out there and last the whole game – although I was probably walking around for the final 10!”
