Dev Squad Draw At Brentford

13 November 2013

Horsburgh on target against Bees

Lewis Horsburgh scored as Pompey’s development squad drew 1-1 in a friendly at Brentford.

The Blues fell behind to a header from a corner after just two minutes.

But Horsburgh equalised midway through the first half, racing onto Nick Awford’s pass and rounding the goalkeeper before sliding home.

Pompey created a number of good opportunities after that, while John Sullivan also made some key saves in the Blues goal.

Academy manager Andy Awford said: “Brentford had six regular first team players in their side, so it was a pleasing result.

“It was a good test for our lads and an impressive performance. They took on board what we have been teaching them in training.

“It was an even game, but we played on the front foot, put a shift in and created some decent chances.”

Pompey: Sullivan; Warren, Spetch, Whatmough, Medway (Haunstrup 46); Maloney, Close (Field 60), Awford, Kim (Gill 60); Harris, Horsburgh (Tarbuck 46)
