Ladies Heading To Fratton

23 October 2013

Watch Pompey take on Tottenham

Fratton Park has already played host to an England Women fixture this season.

But Pompey Ladies will also be visiting the ground for their Premier League Southern Division match against Tottenham on Sunday, December 1.

And director of football Vanessa Raynbird is delighted that her side have been welcomed into the fold this season.

She said: “It’s magnificent for us. I’ve played at Fratton Park in a cup match before, but it’s the first time that a Pompey Ladies game will ever be played there and hopefully it will be the first of many.

“It’s a great opportunity for our players to compete on a fantastic playing surface. Most of them are Pompey fans, so it should be a great day and they’re all looking forward to it.

“Obviously we want to hype the game and attract as many fans as possible, but we also have to keep the players’ feet on the ground and remind them that they have to treat it the same as any other game.

“We’ve forged some great links with the club recently and we’re extremely grateful that they’ve allowed us to use Fratton Park. There are a lot of people to thank, but Iain McInnes and Mark Catlin have worked especially hard to make it happen.

“In the past it has been an absolute nightmare to get any backing from the club, but this year we’ve got tracksuits and three new kits, with the third strip given to us for free by Sondico.

“Now our players look and feel like they’re a part of Portsmouth Football Club and that’s the way it should be.

“Hopefully we can do the city and the club proud by beating Tottenham. I would urge as many Pompey fans as possible to come down to Fratton Park and watch the game.

“We like to play attractive football and if fans see that, it might convince a few of them to come and support us regularly at Westleigh Park.

“With the way we’ve played, we’ve been extremely unlucky not to have won more games this season, but I’m sure that will soon change because we have a good squad who are determined to do well.”

Tickets for the game will be priced £5 for adults and £1 for concessions and can be bought online here or from the Frogmore Road ticket office.
