Legend To Open New Store

17 October 2013

Knight at Pompey shop on Saturday

It’s been some time coming, but the new Pompey store will be officially opened by club legend Alan Knight on Saturday.

And Blues engagement manager Micah Hall is convinced fans will think it’s been worth the wait.

The Fratton Way store will be officially open its doors at 1pm on Saturday, October 19 at a ceremony performed by former goalkeeper Knight, who played more than 800 times for Pompey.

Club mascots Nelson and Mary Rose and their pups Georgie, Archie-Royal and Ted will also be in attendance. Chairman Iain McInnes is also hoping to be there, provided his pre-match schedule allows.

Set up in partnership with sports retail giant Sports Direct, the store will stock a wide range of Pompey merchandise. It opened to the public last week after a series of unavoidable delays, but Hall thinks fans will be delighted with what they see.

He said: “It is fantastic news the shop has finally opened. Fans who have already used the store are delighted with the quality of not only the merchandise, but also the in-store experience.

“The advantage of partnering up with a company like Sports Direct is that the club gets a high-quality retail facility. And the deal we have with them ensures that the club will benefit from every additional item sold.

“The partnership with Sondico, and their parent company Sports Direct, has already been a huge success, delivering the fastest-selling replica shirt in our history. We are confident we will see the same response to the merchandise range.”
