Pompey defender helps under-19s progress in Euro qualifiers

Adam Webster has helped England under-19s move a step closer to qualifying for the European Championship.

The 18-year-old Pompey defender – currently on loan at Aldershot – played two of the Three Lions’ three first round matches.

He started the 1-1 draw against hosts Slovenia before being rested for a 7-0 rout of Andorra.

But Webster returned to the side for the crunch final game against Switzerland, with Mason Bennett’s goal ensuring England progressed to the Elite Round, which takes place in May.

Seven teams will then progress to next summer’s European Championship in Hungary, with the best performers then qualifying for the under-20 World Cup in New Zealand.

Pompey academy manager Andy Awford said: “I’m delighted that Adam has been able to maintain his place in the England side this season.

“The games he’s played in will give him valuable experience and aid his progress.”
