Cooper Returns To Pompey

5 September 2013

Third spell at Fratton for versatile star

Shaun Cooper has rejoined Pompey in a deal until January.

The versatile 29-year-old was a free agent after leaving Crawley at the end of last season and will wear the number 20 shirt.

Cooper scored twice in 14 appearances for the Blues last season after arriving on loan from the Red Devils in January.

“It’s nice to be back concentrating on football after an extended summer,” he said. “I’m pleased to get the deal done and to come back to a club that now has a different feel about the place.

“Everybody knows about the problems last season with so many players coming and going, but it’s nice to come back for a new beginning.

“The pitch and the stadium look great and I’m looking forward to getting going once again.”

Blues boss Guy Whittingham said: "You can put him in a number of positions and know he'll perform well. He's also a good pro and that will rub off on the other players."

It will be Cooper’s third spell at Fratton Park – he played seven times for the first team after progressing through the youth ranks.

In the summer of 2005 he left for Bournemouth, where he made 240 appearances over seven years.
