Awford and Bird score before rain halts match

Pompey’s development friendly against Bournemouth was abandoned after an hour because of torrential rain at Westleigh Park.

The game was delicately poised at 2-2 when the referee decided to call the game off because the ball was stopping dead.

The Blues took the lead after 27 minutes when Ryan Bird’s angled drive across the box was converted at the far post by Nick Awford.

Bird got on the scoresheet himself soon after, heading home Dan Butler’s pin-point cross.

But Bournemouth netted either side of the interval to level the scores before the referee decided to call an early halt to proceedings.

Pompey: Trialist; Triggs, Whatmough (Close 46), Warren, Butler; Branford, Padovani (Tarbuck 46), Trialist, Awford; Trialist, Bird
