East: Happy To Help

Summer signing content to play wherever he's needed

Being Pompey’s Mr Versatile has its ups and downs.

Danny East has featured at left-back, right-back and in the centre of midfield since arriving at Fratton Park over the summer.

It means that Blues fans have yet to see what his best role in the team is.

But, by contrast, East has also played a part in the majority of Pompey’s games this season.

The 21-year-old said: “It can be a good thing and it can be a bad thing. You want to have a set position, but at the moment I’m playing games.

“The manager told me that my versatility is useful for the team and I’m happy to do whatever it takes to get us out of the league.

“Right-back is where I’ve played most often and feel most solid, but I enjoyed playing in midfield.”

East was part of a Pompey defence that kept a clean sheet in Tuesday night’s penalty shoot-out triumph at Torquay in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.

“It was the most comfortable I’ve felt,” he said. “We came together well and there weren’t too many problems.

“It was always going to take time with a new back four and new players in front of them. We’re getting there, but we have to keep going and keep improving.”

East hopes Pompey can pick up their second League Two victory of the campaign at Cheltenham on Saturday.

He said: “They had a great season last year before falling at one of the final hurdles. They’re a good side, especially at home and we’ll give them plenty of respect.

“But we’ll go there with a positive outlook after our result at Torquay during the week.”
