A DAY TO REMEMBER

8 August 2014

£22,000 raised yesterday as we pass £231,000 for the Pompey academy

If we thought that Wednesday was momentous, then Thursday surpassed that and all expectations as we smashed through previous records for the fanfunding campaign.

With supporters raising a total of £22,000 between 9am and midnight, the gauntlet was laid down – bringing the £250,000 target firmly in sight.

Among the big donations, the Sports Mail raised a total of £2,239 after donating 10p of every sale over the summer to the campaign – and they will continue to donate 10p to Pompey for every issue sold throughout the season.

We also sold a number of spot rewards including a signed Matt Taylor shirt for £200 and closed the auction for dinner with Johnny Ertl at an impressive £600, which should be added to the total at some point in the next 24 hours.

With Sunday's final total looming large and £2,000 already donated today, hopes are high that the goal will be reached.

We will be letting you know in the near future what any money over and above the target raised will be spent on – but it will all benefit the academy.

Follow us on Twitter for updates on our progress throughout the day and over the weekend – and if you mention the academy in any tweets, be sure to use the hashtag #PompeyAcademy.

Remember, every penny goes towards funding the two Academy pitches, so whatever you can do to help will make a difference.

If you're yet to make your donation, or you'd like to make another contribution, please visit our campaign page where it can be done in just a couple of clicks.
