Read striker's thoughts in tonight's programme

“I can do that by scoring goals, setting them up or just helping the team in any way I can.”

“It’s down to each individual player to perform well and either keep or earn their place in the side.

“We’ve got a number of forwards who can play in different positions and that’s vital – especially in this league and with a long season and a lot of matches ahead.

“It’s exactly what you want,” says Westcarr in the official matchday magazine for tonight’s League Two clash with Northampton at Fratton Park. “You need a decent squad if you want to push on and do well.”

Patrick Agyemang and Tom Craddock will also be looking to make their mark once they recover from hamstring and knee injuries respectively.

The striker is battling it out with Ryan Taylor, Miles Storey and Ryan Bird for a place in the team.

And Craig Westcarr believes that competition for places will aid the Blues’ quest for a successful campaign.
