HOLLANDS: FIXTURES PROVIDE CHRISTMAS CHEER

24 December 2014

Midfielder pleased with festive schedule

Danny Hollands owes the fixture computer a debt of gratitude.

Pompey’s Christmas matches include a home clash with AFC Wimbledon on Boxing Day and then a trip to Luton two days later.

It means the Blues players will be able to spend time with their families over the festive period.

And Hollands is looking to enjoy the big day before getting ready to tackle the Dons.

The midfielder said: “Christmas is one of the first things you look at when the fixtures come out.

“It’s nice to be at home on Boxing Day because it gives you more time to be around your family.

“I’ve had years when we’ve been sent up the other end of the country and you have to stay in a hotel on Christmas Day.

“This year I’ll be able to have a traditional dinner, although obviously I have to watch what I eat because you can’t pig out with a game the next day.

“It’s a busy period and we’ve got two tough games in the space of just a few days, but we’re looking forward to both.”

Pompey sit one place above the Dons in the League Two table, while Luton currently occupy the final automatic promotion spot.

Hollands said: “AFC Wimbledon started off well and then had a bit of a difficult spell, but they’re a good side.

“But I’m confident that we can collect the three points and then you’ve got a chance to build some momentum with another game following quickly after.

“Everyone’s in a good frame of mind at the moment and feeling positive, so we know we can do a job.

“I believe we’ve got a good group of players and that we can start moving in the right direction.”

Danny Hollands is 11/1 with Sky Bet to open the scoring against AFC Wimbledon. Bet at www.skybet.com/pompey for the chance to win Pompey £250,000 from the Sky Bet Transfer Fund.
