12 December 2014

Former Wycombe boss 'can't wait to get started'

Pompey have appointed Gary Waddock as assistant manager.

The 52-year-old former QPR, Aldershot, Wycombe and Oxford manager has most recently been coaching at Barnet.

Waddock said: “Pompey are a big club and I want to help them start to move forwards again.

“I’m excited to be working with Andy, the staff and players, as well as getting to know the fans here.

“I’ve worked at this level before, so know what is required and now I can’t wait to get started.

“I’d like to thank the manager and chairman at Barnet for their help in allowing me to move here.”

Blues boss Awford said: “I’d like to welcome Gary to the football club. He ticks all the boxes for what is required and I’m looking forward to working with him.”

Waddock led the Shots to the Conference Premier title in 2007/08, with the Hampshire side collecting a mammoth 101 points.

The former Republic of Ireland international then guided Wycombe to League Two promotion in 2011.
