Chorley Certain Of Survival

14 February 2014

Defender believes Blues don't have to fear the drop

Pompey sit just four points above the League Two drop zone.

But Ben Chorley is confident that the Blues will not suffer yet another relegation come the end of the season.

Richie Barker’s side have lost only two of their last nine matches, although five of those have finished as draws.

And Chorley believes there is enough quality in the squad to pull further away from danger in the coming weeks.

“This is a new league for the club and the fans and it’s hard to take – I’ve never played at this level before,” he says in the official matchday magazine for Saturday’s clash with AFC Wimbledon.

“Pompey have been in the doldrums with everything that’s happened here over the last few years, but I’m 100 per cent sure that we’ll be fine this season and then next season can be a great one.

“It’s easy to get into a rut and before long you’re at a stage where losing and relegation becomes normality.

“I can see why everyone’s frustrated and the buck stops with the players, but this is a team in transition with a lot of new faces both on and off the pitch.

“I’ve seen enough – apart from in the first half against Torquay when nobody was up to scratch – to know we’re a team who are willing to fight and give everything.”

You can read the full interview – where Chorley also talks about his hopes for the future – in Saturday’s programme.

Issue 19 is another packed edition with a double-sided pull-out poster and collectable player cards.

Also in the perfect-bound 84-page publication, Danny East discusses his firsts, we take an in-depth look at AFC Wimbledon and there are exclusive columns from Richie Barker, Iain McInnes and Johnny Ertl.

Saturday’s matchday magazine is available to buy from programme sellers around Fratton Park and is great value at just £3.

You can also download the programme (from 9am on Saturday) for £2.99 to read on your iPhone or iPad. Download the free Matchday Digital app from the iTunes store, find the Pompey section and follow the instructions. Click here for more information.
