Kempson treble downs Chesham

Sarah Kempson hit a hat-trick as Pompey Ladies won 4-1 at Chesham to stretch their winning run to six matches.

The result saw the Blues move up to third in the Premier League Southern Division table – six points behind leaders Cardiff with a game in hand.

Kempson opened the scoring from the penalty spot on 16 minutes after Charley Wilson had been brought down in the box.

Chesham managed to draw level, but Gemma Simmonds’ restored the visitors’ advantage with a shot from the edge of the box just before the interval.

In the second half, Kempson netted from 20 yards before converting a Lucy Quinn corner to complete her treble and secure a comfortable victory.

Joint Blues boss Katie Poore said: “It wasn’t the greatest performance, but we got the job done and that’s the most important thing.

“We were off the pace at the start, but improved as the game went on and I think Chesham’s equaliser actually shook us up a bit.

“It was disappointing that we couldn’t keep another clean sheet, although if that’s the only complaint then we must be doing something right.

“Sarah took her goals well and now we’re looking forward to facing Tottenham and hopefully getting some revenge after they beat us at Fratton Park earlier in the season.”

Pompey: Blakely, Bazan, McMillan, Murphy, Taylor, Quinn, Bloomfield, Simmonds (Hunt 90), Kempson (Russell 78), Hillier (c) (Greene 85), Wilson

Pompey’s reserve side were beaten 3-0 at West Ham, but the under-11s secured a 2-2 draw against Wyvern thanks to goals from Lauren Henley-Clarkson and Madi Hook.
