FA Cup progress for Pompey

Pompey eased to a 3-0 victory over Lewes to book their place in the fourth round of the FA Women’s Cup.

The Blues now face an away tie against either Premier League Northern Division side Derby or Crystal Palace from the London and South East League.

They took the lead after just 13 minutes at Furze Lane, with Gemma Hillier volleying home Lucy Quinn’s cross.

Charley Wilson then took advantage of some confusion in the Lewes defence to side-foot into an empty net midway through the first half.

Pompey increased their advantage before the break when Sarah Kempson curled home off the inside of the post.

The hosts continued to dominate in the second half, but had to settle for just a three-goal margin of victory.

Joint Blues boss Katie Poore said: “It was a fantastic performance. We scored three fantastic goals – the first from Gemma was amazing.

“The girls did exactly what we asked of them and we looked really solid in defence. We had a game-plan and we stuck to it.

“We stopped Lewes from creating many clear-cut opportunities and restricted them to long-range shots.

“It’s a competition we want to go as far as we can in and we’ve avoided the Super League teams that have entered the competition in the next round.”

Pompey: Blakely, Frampton (Bazan 61), McMillan, Murphy, Taylor, Quinn, Crabb (Hunt 69), Simmonds, Kempson, Hillier (c) (Greene 75), Wilson

Pompey’s under-16 side were also in action and thrashed Camberley 11-0 to book their place in the semi-finals of the Hampshire Cup.
