Pompey score 17 in Hampshire Cup triumph

Pompey Ladies cruised into the semi-finals of the Hampshire Cup with a 17-0 thrashing of Aldershot.

Gemma Hillier (pictured) hit four goals, while there were hat-tricks for both Charley Wilson and Lucy Quinn as the Blues set up a last four clash with Basingstoke.

Sarah Kempson also weighed in with a brace, with Tiffany Taylor, Gemma Simmonds, Nadine Bazan, Naomi Greene and Ellie Bloomfield completing the scoring.

Pompey opened the scoring in the very first minute, as Hillier found the bottom corner after being teed-up by Wilson.

Kempson soon doubled the advantage with a screamer from 35 yards, with Hillier then notching her second.

Wilson then grabbed her first of the afternoon before turning provider for Quinn and a couple of superb long-range efforts from Hillier – to complete her hat-trick – and Taylor meant that the hosts were 7-0 up after just 25 minutes.

But the goals kept coming, as strikes from Wilson, Quinn and Kempson ensured the Blues reached double figures by the break.

Pompey did not take their foot of the pedal in the second half and Quinn completed her treble with a goal either side of Hillier’s fourth of the match.

Bazan then made it 14-0 before both Greene and Bloomfield notched their first ever senior Blues goals.

And Wilson became the third player to hit a hat-trick late on when she headed home from Jess Frampton’s cross.

Joint Blues boss Katie Poore said: “It was a fantastic result and a great confidence boost for the girls.

“Credit to Aldershot – they kept going and didn’t give up. It sounds a strange thing to say, but their keeper actually played very well and stopped us from scoring more.

“Charley’s goals took some pressure off her – she celebrated the first like it was in the FA Cup final!

“But it was especially nice to see so many different players get on the scoresheet, especially Naomi and Ellie who opened their accounts for the club.

“The fact we fielded a strong side shows that we take the competition seriously and hopefully we can win the trophy again.”
