Ladies Win On League Return

20 February 2014

Hillier, Simmonds and Quinn score against Brighton

Pompey Ladies finally returned to league action with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Brighton at Blackfield & Langley.

The Blues had triumphed 2-1 at Brighton in their last Premier League Southern Division fixture before Christmas.

Gemma Hillier broke the deadlock for the hosts late in the first half, diverting Fiona McMillan’s shot into the net with a neat back-heel.

But there was still time for another goal just before the break when Gemma Simmonds rose highest in the box to head home Charley Wilson’s cross.

And Lucy Quinn then broke the offside trap to fire in Pompey’s third on 47 minutes and secure a fifth successive victory.

Pompey: Blakely, Bazan, McMillan, Murphy, Taylor (Greene 80), Quinn (Sievwright 85), Bloomfield (Russell 64), Simmonds, Kempson, Hillier (c), Wilson
Subs not used: Cox, Hunt
