No Room For Sentiment

Barcham focused on doing well for Pompey

There will be no feelings of sentiment when Andy Barcham returns to Scunthorpe this weekend.

The winger made 84 appearances during his two years with The Iron before arriving at Fratton Park last summer.

He will be fully focused on picking up three points for his current side at Glanford Park on Saturday, however.

But Barcham knows that will be tough against a Scunthorpe outfit who have not been beaten since their 2-1 triumph at Fratton Park back in November.

He said: “Come 3pm on Saturday, it will be like any other game for me and I’m only concerned with getting the points.

“I had good times there – there were ups and downs – and I still have some good friends at Scunthorpe.

“It was my first move up north and away from home and it was special once I’d settled because I hit double figures that first season.

“We’re well aware of just how hard it will be on Saturday given Scunthorpe’s position in the league.

“They’re on a 15-match unbeaten run, so will be full of confidence and very difficult to beat.

“But we have to try to build on our victory last week and I’m conscious we’ve not had back-to-back league wins all season.

“It will be a tough ask, but we have to build momentum of our own so we can begin to move the right way in the league.”

Barcham is 10/1 with Sky Bet to open the scoring on Saturday. Sign up for an account at www.skybet.com/pompey for great offers and to earn money for the club.
