Wallace Wants Momentum

Midfielder looking to build on Dons victory

A first home victory since Boxing Day was enough to lift the Fratton blues.

Ryan Taylor’s second half header saw Pompey beat AFC Wimbledon on Saturday.

But Jed Wallace wants to see them build on that result and continue climbing the table.

Next up for the Blues is a trip to promotion-chasing Scunthorpe and the chance to win successive league games for the first time this season.

Pompey have increased the gap between themselves and the bottom two to seven points, but Wallace does not want them to rest on their laurels.

The teenager said: “All the boys were happy that we got three points. It wasn’t going to be pretty, especially at this point of the season when we’re in the position that we’re in.

“But the new manager has come in and we haven’t lost many games since then.

“We haven’t won as many as we would have liked, though, and hopefully we can now get back-to-back wins for the first time this season.

“Everyone’s disappointed that we haven’t done ourselves justice on enough occasions this season.

“We still need to collect every point we can to move further away from the bottom of the table.”

It was not a classic encounter against the Dons at the weekend and Wallace felt that Pompey’s work-rate was key to victory.

He said: “The conditions weren’t great, but all we’re really bothered about is that we got three points.

“This is League Two and we’re in a relegation battle – that’s the reality of things.

“But the fans would have seen 14 players give 100 per cent passion for the cause and come out as worthy winners.”
