On-loan defender looking forward to Oxford clash
He has had to wait longer than expected for his Blues debut.
But Daniel Alfei is excited about pulling on a Pompey shirt for the first time if he is selected at Oxford on Saturday.
The on-loan Swansea right-back was signed in time to feature against Accrington last week.
But torrential rain put paid to that and left Alfei kicking his heels for an extra week.
The 21-year-old said: “I couldn’t wait to get started, so it was frustrating when the game was called off.
“It was so disappointing – playing in front of the home crowd would have been a great start.
“But if I play at Oxford then I’ll be ready for that as well and hopefully we can pick up three points.
“They’re doing well, but every game’s tough in this league – there are no easy matches.
“Any team can beat any other and you have to be prepared to do your best whoever you’re playing.”
Alfei revealed that it was an easy decision to join Pompey for a month and that he has been impressed with the quality at Fratton Park.
He said: “I jumped at the chance to come here and play some football because it’s exactly what I need at this stage of my career.
“There’s a lot of quality here – I can tell that from the training. The intensity and sharpness has been great. I’ve been getting used to how the side play and what the manager expects.”
Alfei is 33/1 with Sky Bet to open the scoring on Saturday. Open an account via www.skybet.com/pompey for great offers and to earn money for the club.
