Hinshelwood Appointed Chief Scout

20 January 2014

Fratton return for former youth and reserve coach

Martin Hinshelwood has joined Pompey as chief scout.

The 60-year-old arrives from Crawley, where he worked alongside Richie Barker and Steve Coppell.

And he is looking forward to linking up with the duo again at Fratton Park.

Hinshelwood said: “I really enjoyed working with both him and Steve, doing all the player and match reports. It was a bit of a shock when they left.

“So I was pleased to get the chance to come here and work with them again. I didn’t have to think about it when they asked me.

“I watched games at first team, reserve team and under-21 level to get a dossier of players who are available that we might want to sign in the future.

“There’s nothing like that here currently, so we’re now starting from scratch. We need to build up a network of scouts, so we can have a lot of games covered.”

Hinshelwood was previously at Pompey as reserve and youth team coach, working under Jim Smith and Terry Fenwick.

“I was here between 1994 and 1998, so it was quite some time ago. But I enjoyed my time and hopefully the club can now start to push on again.”

Blues boss Barker added: “He’s got a good knowledge of the way I work and the information I want to receive. He also works extremely hard and he’ll help with what we want to do here.”
