Blues fan Iain Dorrington, 14, would certainly recommend it – having been a mascot on four occasions in four different divisions.

The first time was for a Premier League clash with Aston Villa in April 2010 – the day after his 10th birthday.

His godfather was flying over from Iceland especially for the occasion, only to be stuck at the airport because of a volcanic ash cloud. Meanwhile, his little brother was ill and had to stay at home.

Iain knew the day was truly curse when Pompey lost, but still insists that being picked as a mascot was his best ever birthday present.

He was then a last minute ‘substitute’ for a Championship fixture against Birmingham in March 2012.

The mad dash to Fratton Park was worth it, though, as the Blues claimed all three points.

Iain also served as a mascot alongside his younger brother Niall for a League One clash with Leyton Orient and League Two match against Southend.

He said: “It’s been totally amazing to have been a mascot, supporting Pompey through all the highs and lows.”
