LADIES ROUT ROBINS

29 July 2014

Blues ease to 5-1 victory over Swindon

And the lead was doubled in comical circumstances just before the break.

Sarah Kempson opened the scoring after just 10 minutes following a cagey start to proceedings.

Pompey Ladies began their preparations for the 2014/15 campaign with a 5-1 friendly rout of Swindon. “But I didn’t want to stand in the way of her playing at a higher level. I wish Gemma all the best at Oxford and hope she can continue the good form produced for us last season.”

Blues boss Perry Northeast said: “It’s obviously sad to see her go as she has played such a vital role for this club.

Meanwhile, midfielder Gemma Simmonds has left Pompey to join Women’s Super League Two outfit Oxford.

Beth Thompson reduced Swindon’s deficit, but Charley Wilson and Naomi Green both struck to ensure a comfortable Blues victory.

Lucy Quinn was brought on for the second half and soon increased Pompey’s advantage with a spectacular free-kick from just inside the visitors’ half.

A clearance from Robins keeper Robyn Evett struck Molly Clark in the face and rebounded onto the post before the Blues player was able to tap into an empty net.
