SHOREY: SQUAD GELLING WELL

19 July 2014

Defender happy with summer signings

There have been plenty of new arrivals to boost Pompey’s squad ahead of the 2014/15 campaign.

Paul Jones, Michael Poke, Alex Wynter, James Dunne, Nigel Atangana, Miles Storey and Craig Westcarr all signed over the summer.

And Nicky Shorey is pleased with how they have all bedded into life at Fratton Park.

The defender now believes that the forthcoming training camp in Colchester will help Andy Awford’s side further.

He said: “The new guys have come in, we’ve all gelled well and we’re trying to carry on from where we finished last season.

“I think we’re all still buzzing from the memories we created in those final few matches.

“We’ve now got a trip to Essex next week and that will help the squad come together even more.

“It’s only down the road from where I live, so I’m buzzing – I can meet all the lads there!

“But it’s nice to get away as a group and we’ve also got a couple of games to improve our fitness levels even more.”

Pompey have made a winning start to pre-season, following up last week’s victory at Havant & Waterlooville by defeating Bognor 6-1.

Shorey said: “It was really hot out there and it wasn’t easy, although there a lot worse things you can be doing than playing football.

“But I thought we played well and the main thing is that we didn’t pick up any injuries.

“We’re all just trying to get fit and ready for that first game of the season at Exeter in a few weeks.”
