Keeper delighted to sign for Blues
He has walked out the tunnel at Fratton Park before.
But Paul Jones is looking forward to repeating that action with the home crowd behind him.
The 27-year-old former Crawley goalkeeper became Andy Awford’s latest summer signing when he penned a three-year Blues deal.
And he revealed that the Fratton faithful were a big reason why he chose to sign for Pompey.
Jones said: “I’ve been chatting to the gaffer for a couple of weeks and I’m delighted to get the deal done.
“There was interest from other clubs and I listened to what they had to say, but nothing came close to Pompey.
“This is a special club, despite everything they’ve gone through in recent years.
“I’ve played against Pompey at Fratton Park before, so I’ve seen the atmosphere that the fans create.
“You don’t get that at other clubs – I’ve never seen it where I’ve played before.
“I’ve been here with Crawley and Peterborough and they were great occasions, with the fans really getting behind their side.”
Jones will meet his new team-mates for the first time when the Pompey squad return from their summer break at the end of the month.
“I can’t wait to get started,” he said. “Players dread pre-season, but I’m looking forward to being back in the swing of things.
“Now I’ve got just under a month to get settled down here and find somewhere to live.”
