Blues will face seeded south side in first round
Pompey will not be seeded in the first round of the Capital One Cup.
The draw is also regionalised, meaning the Blues will face another side from the southern section of the competition.
It means there are 18 potential opponents for Andy Awford’s side in the opening round.
They will face either Bournemouth, Birmingham, Brentford, Brighton, Bristol City, Cardiff, Charlton, Ipswich, Leyton Orient, Millwall, MK Dons, Peterborough, Reading, Swindon, Walsall, Watford, Wolves or Yeovil.
Fans will find out who Pompey will face when the first round draw is released at 10am on Tuesday, June 17.
The tie will then be played in the week commencing August 11.
Pompey could face a repeat of last season’s first round clash, which saw them beaten 1-0 at Championship outfit Bournemouth.
