Diagouraga: Every Point Counts

8 March 2014

Midfielder on the battle for survival

The bottom of the League Two table is still very tightly packed.

A haul of four points from the last two games mean Pompey have established a healthy seven point gap between themselves and the bottom two.

But second-bottom Northampton have enjoyed a recent revival and other sides are also on the rise.

So while Toumani Diagouraga is confident that Pompey will survive, he knows that they are not safe yet.

“A lot of new players arrived here over the summer and throughout the season,” he says in the official matchday magazine for this afternoon’s clash with Cheltenham. “Of course it’s going to take a lot of time for everyone to fully settle, but once that happens I believe the team can really start to push on.

“It’s very tight in the table and every point counts. One win can see you climb quite a few places, but then one defeat and you’re right back in trouble again.

“Putting a run of wins together is so important and it’s what we’ve got to look to do here.”

You can read the full interview – where Diagouraga also talks about why he chose to join Pompey – in Saturday’s programme.

Issue 20 is another packed edition with a double-sided pull-out poster and collectable player cards.

Also in the perfect-bound 84-page publication, we take an in-depth look at Cheltenham and there are exclusive columns from Richie Barker, Iain McInnes and Johnny Ertl.

Saturday’s matchday magazine is available to buy from programme sellers around Fratton Park and is great value at just £3.

You can also download the programme for £2.99 to read on your iPhone or iPad. Download the free Matchday Digital app from the iTunes store, find the Pompey section and follow the instructions. Click here for more information.
