Jervis: Confidence Remains High

Pompey’s strikers have not found the back of the last four games.

But Jake Jervis is confident that they will soon start finding the target during the crucial League Two run-in.

The 22-year-old netted four times in his first eight games after rejoining the Blues in January.

And he is looking to replicate that form to help pull Pompey away from the relegation places.

“The forwards haven’t managed any goals recently, but Ryan Taylor and I scored seven in eight games before then,” he says in the official matchday magazine for Saturday’s clash with York. “We were complementing each other well and then he got a groin injury that kept him out for a few fixtures.

“But whoever’s playing up front needs to build a partnership quickly and if we do get one goal, then we have to make sure we kill teams off.

“I’m not the sort of person to get disheartened because you have to be ready to take the next opportunity when it comes your way.

“I’ve had some good games and some indifferent ones recently, but there’s no reason to lose confidence.”

You can read the full interview – where Jervis also talks about his frustration with the contract dispute that delayed his Pompey return – in Saturday’s programme.

Issue 22 is another packed edition with a double-sided pull-out poster and collectable player cards.

Also in the perfect-bound 84-page publication, Ryan Taylor discusses his firsts, we take an in-depth look at York and there are exclusive columns from Richie Barker, Iain McInnes and Johnny Ertl.

Saturday’s matchday magazine is available to buy from programme sellers around Fratton Park and is great value at just £3.

You can also download the programme for £2.99 to read on your iPhone or iPad. Download the free Matchday Digital app from the iTunes store, find the Pompey section and follow the instructions. Click here for more information.
