HOLLANDS RETURNS TO POMPEY

22 May 2014

Blues complete permanent deal for midfielder

Danny Hollands has joined Pompey on a two-year deal, with the mutual option for an extension.

The 28-year-old midfielder was available as a free agent following the expiration of his Charlton contract.

He scored five goals in seven appearances during a loan spell at Fratton Park last season – including a hat-trick against Plymouth on the final day.

Hollands’ arrival coincided with an incredible turnaround as Pompey soared up the League Two table and saw him nominated for the April Player of the Month award.

Blues boss Andy Awford said: “I’m delighted. I think everyone saw the impact Danny made at the end of last season.

“He’s a good lad and a seasoned professional – it’s a great addition to our squad.

“There were other offers on the table because of what he’d done here, but he always wanted to come back to Pompey.

“There’s a big challenge ahead of him and I think he can improve even further. We can get even more out of him.

“We hope he can flourish here next season and become even more of a favourite with the fans.

“I had to release a few players recently and that’s the horrible part of the job, but this is the nice part.

“It’s great to get that first deal done, but there’s no rush for us. We’re happy to wait for the right players to come along.”
