Blues end campaign with Coventry defeat

Pompey Ladies finished the season with a 1-0 defeat to Coventry at Furze Lane.

The result meant the Blues ended fourth in the Premier League Southern Division, while securing the title for their opponents.

Natasha Lynch bagged the only goal of the game early on, stretching out a leg to divert Helen Dermody’s cross into the net.

The hosts had several opportunities at the other end, with Molly Clark, Gemma Hillier and Lucy Quinn all coming close to snatching an equaliser.

Joint Blues boss Perry Northeast said: “We did everything but score – it was an off day in front of goal.

“They took the lead early on and it was all one-way traffic after that as we pressed forward.

“But Coventry defended really well. They’ve conceded only four goals in 10 games and have a couple of very good centre-backs.

“We dominated the league champions for 90 minutes, though, and played really well.

“We possess and amazing crop of players and coaches and I’d like to thank all the fans who have supported us this season – it has made a real difference.”
