Defender hoping for success at Plymouth
Pompey’s away form looked so promising at the start of the season.
A draw against Exeter on the opening day was followed by a 1-0 triumph at Oxford at the end of August.
But that is the only time that the Blues have tasted success on the road in the league this term.
And Joe Devera is hoping they can put that right in front of the Sky Sports cameras when they visit Plymouth on Saturday.
The defender said: “We’ve had some good performances away from home, but a few games haven’t gone our way.
“We haven’t created as many chances as we have at Fratton Park, but we’ve still looked a threat at times.
“There haven’t been many occasions when we’ve been turned over – we’ve always stayed in games.
“Now we’ve got a bit of a southern derby. It’s going to be a tough match and we know we’ll have to be at our best.
“I like the early kick-offs because there’s no waiting around after you get up in the morning.”
Devera has been a regular in Pompey’s back-line this season, but knows he will have to work hard if it is to stay that way.
He said: “There’s some strong competition in the squad and that’s how it’s got to be – it means you have to perform.
“We know that – all over the pitch – there’s someone ready to take your place if you’re not playing well and I like that pressure.”
Devera is 33/1 with Sky Bet to open the scoring at Home Park. Open an account at www.skybet.com/pompey to help Pompey win £250,000 from the Sky Bet Transfer Fund.
