Bazan and Hillier on target for Blues

Nadine Bazan and Gemma Hillier were on target as Pompey beat Brighton 2-0 to record a third successive victory.

Goalkeeper Sadie Blakely produced an inspired performance to lay the foundations at Lancing, making a string of fine saves to frustrate the Seagulls.

Bazan opened the scoring late in the first half, with the full-back picking the ball up inside the opposition half, bursting through the defence and confidently firing home.

Brighton looked to hit back after the interval, but the visitors took advantage of gaps at the back to secure all three points.

Lucy Quinn broke quickly up the pitch before feeding Hillier (pictured), who hit a low shot just past the reach of Faye Baker in the opposition goal.

Blues boss Perry Northeast said: “Our performance could have been better, but we won away against a good side and kept a clean sheet.

“We expected Brighton to be comfortable in possession, but every one of our players did their job to stifle the attacks and Sadie made some fantastic saves.

“Our passing game wasn’t at its finest, but we countered twice and were able to take our chances.

“We’ve got Keynsham next and we have to be professional and remain focused on getting another win.”
