LADIES REACH LEAGUE SUMMIT

Quinn treble downs Hammers

Pompey Ladies climbed to the top of the Premier League Southern Division table with a 3-0 victory at West Ham.

They broke the deadlock after just 15 minutes when Charley Wilson (pictured) climbed highest in the box to head home Lucy Quinn’s corner.

Sarah Kempson then struck the woodwork, while Quinn’s effort was turned around the post as the visitors continued to apply pressure.

And the lead was doubled just past the hour mark, with Wilson on hand to convert after Quinn’s free-kick had been parried clear.

Wilson then completed her hat-trick, finishing from close range after debutant Ini Umotong had flicked the ball over Hammers keeper Nikita Runnacles.

Blues boss Perry Northeast said: “I was pleased with both the result and the performance against a physical West Ham side.

“Recently we have beaten teams, but not managed to put the game out of reach for our opponents.

“This was our instruction for the players at the break and their response in the second half was excellent.

“I was particularly happy for Charley as the extra time she has put in on the training ground has really paid off.

“Ini also did well on her debut. She’s a hell of a presence and made a big impact when she came on.”

Pompey: Blakely; Taylor (Frampton 60), Goodall, Rutherford, Bazan; Bloomfield, Clark (Sievwright 80), Kempson; Quinn, Wilson (c), Hillier (Umotong 72)
